IADB take part on the the "twentieth Annual Meeting of Directors of National Programs for Mine Action and advisers of the United Nations."
From 7 to 10 February the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) has been represented in the "twentieth Annual Meeting of Directors of National Programs for Mine Action and advisers of the United Nations." Participating in the event Mr. Director General of the Secretariat of the IADB - Major Brigadeiro do Ar (Brazil) Mauricio Ribeiro Gonçalves, and the Division Director for Humanitarian Demining (HD) of the .
The participation of the IADB in the event in Geneva has provided important updates on programs and techniques of HD around the world, the challenges to eliminate the scourge of landmines in the world, as well as contacts and coordination with international organizations of HD and experts in the field.
All this effort from the IADB and other organizations surely contribute to the Western Hemisphere free of mines until 2021!

La Junta Interamericana de Defensa participó de la XII Coferencia de los Ministros de Defensa de las Americas “XII CMDA”, realizada en la ciudad de Port of Spain, República de Trinidad y Tobago, en los días 9 hasta 12 de octubre del 2016.
Los temas temas tratados en la Conferencia fueron divididos en tres Ejes Temáticos de estudios que se llevaron a cabo por los países voluntarios antes de la reunión en sí. Las Conclusiones de estos trabajos fueron presentados y discutidos por los estados miembros y las acciones derivadas fueron retratados en la Declaración Final de la XII CMDA, documento que fue firmado por todos los ministros presentes y sus representantes.
Los Ejes Temáticos abordaron los siguientes temas: EJE TEMÁTICO I - “EL CAMBIO DE DEFENSA INTERNACIONAL Y MEDIO AMBIENTE”; EJE TEMÁTICO II - “PROTECCIÓN AMBIENTAL Y RESILIENCIA”; EJE TEMÁTICO III - “SEGURIDAD HEMISFÉRICA Y POLÍTICA DE COOPERACIÓN PARA LA DEFENSA”.
La JID como una institución observadora, además de mantener su misión de ser la memoria institucional de la CMDA, participó activamente en el trabajo, desde su preparación (Preparatory Meeting and Ad hoc Working Group), y también durante la Conferencia, donde proporcionó apoyo técnico la Secretaría Pro Tempore de la XII CMDA, trabajo desarrollado por un equipo técnico formado por cuatro profesionales que acompañaron a la Conferencia en Puerto España, juntamente con el Presidente de El Cosejo de Delegados.

On June 28th, the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) chose by election its Institutional Slogan, in the Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Delegates No. 1376, as part of the actions towards the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the oldest regional defense organization in the world, to take place in 2017.
The winning slogan portrays the cooperation and the joint efforts of the organization and its Member States to the hemispheric security and of building mutual trust. The slogan elected was the following:
“FOMENTANDO Y FORTALECIENDO LA CONFIANZA Y SEGURIDAD HEMISFÉRICA”
“BUILDING AND STRENGTHENING THE HEMISPHERIC CONFIDENCE AND SECURITY”
“FOMENTANDO E FORTALECENDO A CONFIANÇA E SEGURANÇA HEMISFÉRICA”
This slogan will be present in all official documents of the Secretariat and in all institutional publications related to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Board, whose initiative includes, among other actions, the creation of a Logo and of a commemorative stamp.
LECTURE ON COMPLEX EMERGENCIES THE COLOMBIAN CASE AND ITS HEMISPHERICAL PROSPECT GENERAL JAIME ALFONSO LASPRILLA VILLAMIZAR
As part of the Inter-American Defense Board Secretariat’s Work Plan for 2016 and within the scope of high profile seminars, conferences and lectures, on May 26th, at the Casa del Soldado, a lecture occurred a lecture on the theme “Persistent threats: the Colombian case and its hemispherical prospect. Delivering the topic was General Jaime Alfonso Lasprilla Villamizar, former Commander of the Colombian Army and currently Defense Attaché before the Government of the USA.
Initially, the lecture counted on a complete and detailed analysis of the evolution of the Colombian conflict and an exhaustive analysis of the threats that, for more than 50 years, have been striking Colombia, and its permanent mutation and changes, adapting to permanent plans and strategies of the State to fight them. Then, the General clearly and in detail approached the changes happened in the Military and Police Forces in Colombia as per the use of the Committees for Strategic Revision and Innovation (CRE-I) and how, thanks to them, based on a JOINT, COORDINATED AND INTER-AGENCY concept, the State started its way facing and reducing such terrorist threats. Thus, joining forces with other friendly countries, Colombia managed to recover the control over the territory, which will lead the State the needs of the civilian population even on farther areas and, more important, to provide security and peace of mind to the people. Finally, General Lasprilla provided a brief explanation on te plans, projects and strategies for the modernization and transformation of the Armed Forces for the post-conflict.
Upon conclusion, the floor was open to the audience, comprised of the IADB chiefs of departments, delegates and advisors, and guests related to the issues discussed, which helped clarifying, reinforcing and consolidating the topic presented by General Lasprilla.
At the end of the lecture, the Chairman of the Council of Delegates, Vice Admiral
Gonzalo Ríos Polastri, and the Director General of the IADB Secretariat, Lieutenant General Mauricio Ribeiro Gonçalves, delivered a certificate of participation and a plaque to General Jaime Alfonso Lasprilla Villamizar.
Totally fulfilling its objective, one of the most meaningful events of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), the Cultural Meeting of the Americas 2016 contributed to tighten even more the strong bonds of friendship among the Nation of the Americas.
Last May 21st, at the Joint Base Anacostia Bolling (JBAB), Washington, D.C., the international meeting took place, during which the IADB delegations and the over 2500 guests enthusiastically took part in a cultural celebration to the international community.
In an environment of true comradeship and friendship, the event was carried out among laughter and singing, children and adults sharing typical food and music, traditions, traditional outfits, dances and painted faces.
The objective was thoroughly reached: promoting the friendship and the support among the peoples of America. All around, brotherly hugs and honest wishes of welfare and good luck.

The Director General of the Secretariat expresses his special thanks to the Chairmanship of the Council of Delegates, to the Director of the Inter-American defense College and their personnel, to the representatives of the accredited Delegations and to all the families of the participating countries for their motivation and the success of the Cultural Meeting of the Americas.
