General Linhares, Special Advisor for Major Events, conduct presentation about the Brazilian Armed Forces preparation for the summer Olympic Games Rio 2016

As part of the work tour conducted in the United States, on March 2nd, the head of the Special Advisory for Major Events of the Ministry of Defense, General Luiz Felipe Linhares Gomes of the Brazilian Army, visited the IADB Head Quarters and gave a presentation about the preparations of the Brazilian Armed Forces in the 2016 Olympic Games organization.

Arriving at the Board, the General was received by the President of the Council of Delegates of the Inter-American Defense Board, Mr. Vice Admiral (Peru) Gonzalo Rios Polastri, the Director General of the Secretariat of the Inter-American Defense Board, Major Brigadeiro Air (Brazil) Mauricio Ribeiro Gonçalves and Vice-Chairman of the Council of Delegates, Brigadier General (Mexico) Jaime González Avalos.

During the presentation the General Linhares showed all the security planning of the event, the type of use of the Armed Forces during the Olympic Games and the materials and specific training preparations, coordination challenges the interagency overcome during the planning and existing legal frameworks for employment Forces in Law Warranty and Order (GLO).

The topics covered are of great interest from the IADB and its Member States, which often are faced with challenges such, it is important to know the Brazilian experiences acquired over the years in employment issues of armed forces in GLO actions, organization of Major Events like the World Cup 2014, Rio + 20, official visit of the Pope, test events for the Olympic Games; as a basis for planning future challenges like that faced in each country, adjusted to their realities and Regulations.
