THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COUNCIL OF DELEGATES OF THE INTER-AMERICAN DEFENSE BOARD (IADB), VICE ADMIRAL GONZALO RIOS POLASTRI, PARTICIPATED IN THE CARIBBEAN NATIONS SECURITY CONFERENCE XIV

The Chairman of the Council of Delegates of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), Vice Admiral Gonzalo Rios Polastri, participated in the Caribbean Nations Security Conference XIV that took place in Kingston Jamaica from the 26-29 January 2016, event co-hosted by Jamaica and the SouthCom of the United States. The Conference was a great success, highlighting the current security challenges of this region while bringing forward different proposals to increase capacity building and collaboration efforts that are required to counter the identified threats.

Vice Admiral Gonzalo Rios Polastri had the privilege to do a presentation of the IADB with a focus on how the Board could assist the Caribbean Region in its fight against these threats.  The Chairman also had the opportunity to conduct bi-lateral meetings with Bahamas, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint-Vincent and Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, CARICOM IMPACS, and Regional Security System, during which he was able to explain in more details the role and functions of the Board and illustrate how it could support the efforts of the Caribbean Region.

The message of the IADB was very well received.  Several countries indicated their great interest for the master level education program of the Inter-American Defense College, and left the Conference with a much better understanding of the great potential of the IADB.
