The Inter-American Defense Board sets Agreement on Cooperation and Technical Assistance to the General Command of the Military Forces of Colombia

On January 7th, 2015, Vice-Admiral BENTO COSTA LIMA LEITE DE ALBUQUERQUE JUNIOR, Director General of the Inter-American Defense Board, signed an Agreement on Cooperation and Technical Assistance between the Secretariat of the IADB and the General Command of the Military Forces of Colombia, in order to support the training of personnel of the Military Forces of Colombia (FMC) in Humanitarian Demining.

The establishment of such technical cooperation occurred in compliance with Resolution No. 22/2014, by the Council of Delegates of the IADB, issued on August 26, 2014 during its 1355th Ordinary Meeting, which has approved the implementation of technical assistance requested by the Colombian Delegation to the IADB.

The first activity of technical support to be developed is the Course of Instructor for Humanitarian Demining, which has been conducted from January 9, 2015 at the facilities of the Base Training of Marines in the Colombian city of Coveñas - Sucre, with the support of the Inter-American Monitors Group in Colombia (GMI-CO). 21 (twenty-one) troops of the FMC will be trained during the course, which will last approximately 2 (two) months.
