MAURICIO RIBEIRO GONÇALVES

The Air Force Major General MAURICIO RIBEIRO GONÇALVES was born in the city of Goiânia, State of Goiás, Brazil, on Feb 21, 1957. During the sixties an event marked him indelibly. During the celebrations of Air Force Week he watched for the first time a panoramic flight in a McDonnell Douglas C-47 across the skies of Brasilia, which had been newly designated the new Capital.
Thus, in 1975, at eighteen years of age he got into the Air Cadets Preparatory School, a middle school institution, located in Barbacena a city in the interior of the state of Minas Gerais, graduating in the Air Force Academy as an Aviator on Dec 10, 1981. The Air Force Academy is located in Pirassununga, São Paulo.
After graduating, he specialized in Search and Rescue (SAR) having become an Operational Pilot in both fixed and rotating wings aircrafts. He has more than 5000 flight hours many of which over the Pantanal in Mato Grosso and the Brazilian Amazon. He also performed SAR activities while at the Tenth Aviation Group’s Second Squadron also known as the PELICAN SQUADRON (2º/10º GAV), where he performed Lieutenant’s duties, then he was Operations Officer and later already as a Lieutenant Colonel he was appointed SQUADRON Commander.
When assigned to Brasilia he had the chance to fly with the GTE which in Portuguese stands for Special Transportation Group adding to his Curriculum Vitae the experience of transporting the highest military and civilian officials as well as the Nation’s President. He flew on Lear Jet 35, Boeing 737 and the Helicopter Ecureuil.
He took all the regular professional courses and was Head at the 2008's class on the Airspace Policies and Strategy Course. In addition, he also took the Advanced Strategic Studies Course for Ibero-American flag officers at the Centro Superior de Estudios de la Defensa Nacional (CESEDEN) in Madrid- Spain 2005, plus the Defense Advanced Strategic Studies at Istituto Alti Studi per la Difesa (IASD), Rome – Italy 2007/2008.
Major General GONÇALVES has a natural proclivity to Human Resources Management, having been the director of: Air Force Commission for the promotion of officers known as (CPO), Chief of Staff of the Air Force Commander (GABAER) and was Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Force (EMAER). Has vast administrative experience. Was the Head of the Administrative Division of Air Force's Specialists (EEAR) and more recently was the Vice Director of the Air Space Control Department (DECEA).
While managing that department, he also became the Commander of the first integrated Center of Air Defense and Air Traffic Control (CINDACTA-I), headquartered in Brasilia overseeing the largest air traffic volume in the country.
Major General GONÇALVES is married to SILVIA MANGETTI GONÇALVES and has three daughters: TATIANA, TÁSSIA e THAÍS.
